The Reed Surgery Center
The Center is equipped with the latest surgical instrumentation,
including minimally-invasive technology, closed-circuit cameras and
microphones for two-way interaction with an adjacent educational
viewing room for surgeons in training.
There are approximately 6,000 out-patient surgeries a year at the
Hospital. One Day Surgery routinely handles general, gynecological,
and orthopaedic procedures, as well as all non-surgical procedures and
post-operative care, including liver biopsy, cardioversion, anesthesia
procedures, bronchoscopy, arteriogram preparation and recovery,
cardiac catheterization recovery and MRI and CT Scan sedation.
A pediatric pre-operative program offers a tour of the center for
children and their families, a pediatric playroom and the support of
the Hospital's Child Life Specialist on the morning of surgery.
Emergency Services/ Observation Unit
Waterbury Hospital is a Level II Trauma Center, providing optimal care
for all critically ill or injured patients. The Observation Unit
located within the Emergency Department, provides close monitoring of
patients with undiagnosed chest pain and other symptoms, in a quiet,
comfortable and private environment.
Intensive Care/Telemetry
A 35-bed Medical Intensive Care and Telemetry unit combines a highly
skilled nursing staff with the state-of-the-art technology necessary
to meet the needs of patients. A centralized nursing station maximizes
the staff's ability to track patients closely. The units are an
integral component of the Hospital's designation as a Level II Trauma
Center.
Inpatient Hospice Care
Quality of life at the end of life is
the philosophy behind an innovative inpatient hospice suites jointly
run by the Hospital and its affiliate, VNA Health at Home. The suites
provides an alternative to home hospice or hospice centers which may
not be easily accessible to the terminal patient. |
